TerraCycle and Bausch + Lomb have partnered to create a free recycling program for Biotrue® ONEday contact lenses and blister packs, as well as lenses and packs from other Baush + Lomb brands. If you come across any new waste diversion stream like these, please let us know! We are constantly on the outlook for organizations who will take things like coffee bags, plastic cards (expired credit cards and the like), other types of food packaging, etc. We will add (back) any that become available and send updates. Sadly all of the other brigades that we used to collect for have either been closed or they now charge us money to participate. Things like cleaning containers should now be put in curbside recycling IF they are appropriate (have the symbol for plastic items or are empty aerosol cans.) Prescription bottles should be put in curbside recycling if they have the recycle symbol (most do.) Corks – Whole Foods (and other residents are welcome to them for crafts, etc).Printer cartridges – these are welcome at Staples and they even have a rewards program for them.We will also continue to collect the following as a convenience to residents: Brita brand water filters and other products.Other brands LARGE bags are welcome as we use those for shipping! Pet food bags – Wellness and Open Farm brands ONLY for TerraCycle.Snack bags – any brand: (chips, pretzels, etc).Personal Care and Beauty products packaging – any brand: but only packaging that cannot go in curbside recycling.

  • Oral Care items – any brand: toothbrushes, electric toothbrush heads (electric toothbrush handles and charging stations also come to First Saturdays but over in electrical), toothpaste tubes and dispensers, floss containers (NO USED FLOSS or PICKS PLEASE).
  • This, too, will certainly change as we have learned – please don’t shoot messengers! And to that end, we are updating our TerraCycle list so you know what we can and cannot take on First Saturdays. That said, with your patience and understanding, we are willing to keep going. It is really NO FUN at all, after supporters work hard to sort and separate in their efforts to go towards zero waste. It is horrible for the people at the Newburyport Recycling Center to have to change the rules on you, seemingly at every turn. what we have to pay for them to take is quite a task.
